Frequently Asked Questions

Technical answers about brūhi Studio's architecture, capabilities, and workflows.

General

What is brūhi Studio?

brūhi Studio is a professional broadcast workstation for live radio, internet radio, podcasting, and live events. It combines precision mixing, studio-grade processing, a 128-pad soundboard, and multi-platform streaming into a single, high-stability native application.

What platforms are supported?

brūhi Studio runs natively on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10/11, and Linux. Linux builds support standard ALSA and PulseAudio as well as professional JACK/PipeWire backends.

Is brūhi Studio free?

brūhi Studio is currently in pre-release development. You can request early access through our beta program. Pricing for the production version will be announced soon.

What makes brūhi different?

Unlike browser-based tools, brūhi is a native application built for absolute reliability and sub-millisecond precision. It uses a high-performance broadcast engine designed for mission-critical broadcasts where stability and sound quality are paramount.

Audio Quality

What audio formats can I use?

brūhi supports all major professional formats including WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, and AAC. All files are resampled to a broadcast-standard 48 kHz using high-fidelity processing to ensure consistent quality across your entire show.

How low is the latency?

The system is optimized for real-time response, typically achieving 5–10 ms output latency. For live monitoring, the microphone-to-speaker path includes an adjustable latency trim to perfectly align with your hardware setup.

How many microphones can I connect?

The mixer supports three concurrent inputs: Mic 1, Mic 2, and a Remote line-in. Each input features independent gain control, a high-pass filter to remove rumble, and a dedicated processing rack for a polished, on-air sound.

What effects are included?

A full 7-stage master processing rack is included: High-Pass/Low-Pass filters, a 5-band Parametric EQ, a studio-grade Compressor, a Brick-Wall Limiter for peak protection, a Noise Gate, and a Stereo Enhancer for a wider soundstage.

Broadcasting

Where can I stream my show?

brūhi supports all major industry standards including Icecast, Shoutcast, HLS (for web delivery), and RTP (for high-end studio links). Support for SRT is also included for secure, low-latency transport.

Can I stream to multiple platforms at once?

Yes. Our advanced distribution engine allows you to broadcast to unlimited destinations simultaneously. Because the encoding happens once and is then shared, adding more destinations does not increase your computer's CPU load.

What streaming qualities are supported?

You can broadcast in high-fidelity WAV, FLAC, MP3, or Opus. Each output can be configured with its own format and bitrate, allowing you to provide high-quality streams for high-bandwidth users and efficient streams for mobile listeners.

Can I record my live shows?

Absolutely. brūhi provides built-in recording in WAV, FLAC, or MP3 formats. Recordings can be triggered manually or automated as part of your show schedule.

Library & Automation

How do I manage my music collection?

The media library features high-speed indexing and instant search across your entire collection. It automatically reads metadata from your files and provides advanced sorting by title, artist, album, genre, and more.

What are Smart Playlists?

Smart playlists allow you to automate your show content based on rules you define. For example, you can create a playlist that always includes "High Energy" tracks from the "90s" that haven't been played in the last week.

Can I create custom automation scripts?

Yes. For advanced users, brūhi Script allows you to write custom playout logic. These scripts are run in a secure environment to ensure they never interfere with the stability of the audio engine.

Show Production

How many soundboard pads are available?

The Cart Wall provides up to 128 pads across multiple banks. Each pad is color-coded and can be configured with custom fade durations, looping, and keyboard shortcuts for instant triggers.

Can I use a MIDI controller?

Yes. The system includes a "MIDI Learn" mode — simply select a control in the software, move the knob on your hardware, and they are instantly mapped. This works for faders, crossfaders, and pad triggers.

How does show scheduling work?

Our visual broadcast grid gives you a full month view of your station. You can drag and drop blocks for audio files, playlists, or live sessions, and set them to repeat daily or weekly with ease.

Reliability

Is my setup saved if the app restarts?

Yes. Every setting, playlist, effects chain, and broadcast configuration is saved automatically. Even the position of your faders and the tracks currently loaded in your decks are restored on startup.

What happens if there is a power failure?

The system uses an industrial-grade database to manage your data, ensuring that your library and logs remain intact even during an unexpected shutdown.

How do I get updates?

brūhi includes a built-in secure update system. You will be notified when a new version is available, and it can be installed with a single click to ensure you always have the latest features and stability improvements.
